- The problem of maintaining and developing the health of university students continues to be a pressing concern. Objective – to explore the lifestyle of first-year students and their level of awareness concerning health and lifestyle. Material and Мethods. A questionnaire-based study was performed involving 100 first-year medical students, aged 16–17, with the purpose to examine their lifestyle and level of health information. Results and Discussion. The majority of first-year students (70%) was found to have a sufficient level of health awareness; the greater part (87%) knows that lifestyle is a significant factor influencing human health. However, the study of their lifestyle parameters revealed frequent violations of work and rest regimes, the quality and timing of nutrition, a deficit of physical activity, the prevalence of harmful habits, and psychological distress. Conclusion. Thus, the application of systemic measures is necessary: the optimization of the academic workload in universities, psychological support for first-year students, the integration of programs for the formation of a healthy lifestyle (HLS) into the educational process, and the improvement of the physical education system.
