MEDICAL STUDENTS AND THEIR ATTITUDE TO HEALTHY LIFE STYLE

- Objective – to study the knowledge level upon healthy life style (HLS) and readiness to follow it in medical students. Material and methods. 131 fourth year students (specialty – Pediatrics) of medical university were enrolled in the survey. The original questionnaire was composed of 27 questions which were merged into 5 units. Results and discussion. 57,3 % of the students estimated their health as good. 29,0 % of them consulted the doctor for several times a year, 28,2 % of the students suffered from chronic diseases. Knowledge level upon HLS were not absolute in the respondents: among the principles of healthy life style they listed the lack of harmful habits (25,2 %), healthy sleep (13,7 %), rational nutrition (13,7 %) and going for sports (13,0 %). 49,6 % of the examined students considered that they followed healthy life style. The most part of the respondents (51,9 %) did not find any obstacles, the rest named the lack of free time as the cause of HLS refusal (82,5 %), absence of desire (52,4 %) and presence of harmful habits (50,8 %). The respondents were going for sports in order to maintain health (57,3 %), ate regularly and fully (46,6 %). The mode of life in the students from the point of view of HLS principles commitment were characterized by the following parameters: going for sports for two-three times a week – 52,9 % студентов, active smoking – 16,0 %, free time with smartphone and/or PC – 72,5 %, among them within three-six hours a day – 42,0 %, more than six hours – 26,0 %. Conclusion. The conducted survey demonstrated insufficient knowledge level upon HLS questions and low readiness to follow such principles in medical students.
