- The aim of this study is to analyze the frequency of complications during laser-assisted and standard renal resection procedures. Material and Methods. The frequency of perioperative complications was studied in 130 patients with localized renal cancer who underwent kidney resection. Standard kidney resection was performed on 74 (56.9 %) patients, while high-energy laser surgery was used in 56 (43.1 %) cases. Perioperative complications were evaluated according to the Rosenthal and Clavien-Dindo classification systems. Results and Discussion. The overall incidence of perioperative complications was 10.0 %. After standard renal surgery, complications were reported in 9 (12.1 %) cases, and after laser resection complications were noted in 4 (7.6 %) cases. Bleeding was observed in five patients, a retroperitoneal hematoma in one, ureteral obstruction in two, damage to the inferior vena cava in two, and formation of a urinary fistula in three. No complications resulting in organ loss were reported. Conclusion. The analysis of the frequency of reported perioperative complications in both groups did not reveal statistically significant differences (p > 0.05). This indicates the safety of using high-energy laser surgery when performing kidney resection, comparable to standard resection.
