- Objective – to evaluate the results of knee arthrodesis (KAD) in patients with knee joint periprosthetic infection (KJPI). Material and methods. The results of the treatment for 14 patients (9 women and 5 men) aged from 66 to 87 years with periprosthetic infection of knee joint after knee arthrodesis (KAD) were analyzed. The results of surgical treatment for patients were estimated in terms from six months to three years. Results and discussion. The indications for the selection of the certain fixation method in performing arthrodesis were presented. In six months 10 (71,4 %) patients reported significant decrease of the intensity of pain syndrome at rest and under load, 13 (92,8 %) – improvement of the operability of the operated limb by use of additional support means if necessary. Pronounced lameness which was stipulated by the shortening of the operated limb persisted in 12 (85,7 %) patients. More than half of the patients (9 persons, 64,3 %) switched to situational use of painkillers. The patients after KAD by personalized implant completely refused to take painkillers. Conclusion. So KAD was allowed to be recommended as a variant of operative intervention within integrated approach to surgical treatment for KJPI in patients with high risk for unsatisfactory result after performing two-stage operative treatment.
