GENDER PECULIARITIES OF SELF-EVALUATION OF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IN ADOLESCENTS

- Objective – to study gender peculiarities of self-evaluation of health and physical activity in adolescents aged 15–17 years. Material and methods. The survey was conducted in 294 adolescents aged 15–17 years in the city of Ivanovo by standard questionnaire «Health behavior in school-aged children» developed by HBSC. Results and discussion. Young boys more often than young girls considered their health excellent (35,1 and 17,5 % respectively, p < 0,001). Young girls more often suffered from headache, depression, nervous tension, monthly abdominal pain, they self-medicated, took pills from headache and abdominal pain. The ideas of their bodies in adolescents often did not correspond to objective anthropometric data. As opposed to objective data both young girls and young boys consider themselves «fat» and even «very fat» (30 and 17,3 %, p < 0,05; 24,1 and 14,3 %, p < 0,05). Young boys more often than young girls unreasonably assessed their growth as exceeding the norm (25,9 and 9,2 %, p < 0,05), but young girls assessed their growth on the contrary – lower than the norm (22,5 and 2,1 %, p < 0,05). And each adolescent tried to change his weight. Young boys more often than young girls were going for sport (50 and 28,1 %, p < 0,05) and had motivation for sports activities (92,7 and 38,9 %, p <0,001). Young girls more often than young boys desired to be attractive (82,5 and 64,2 %, p < 0,05), to have beautiful figure (82,5 and 73,1 %, p < 0,05), to be able to control their body (92,5 and 84,6 % p < 0,05), to monitor their weight (87,5 and 79,3 %, р <0,05). Conclusion. The determined gender peculiarities of self-evaluation of health and physical activity should be taken into consideration in the work on the formation of a healthy lifestyle
