INFLUENCE OF KNOWLEDGE LEVEL UPON COPING ADAPTIVE BEHAVIOR ON THE ADHERENCE TO TREATMENT IN SMOKING PATIENTS WITH ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

- Insufficient adherence to treatment in patients including continued smoking which is chronic stress consequence and the usage of suboptimal coping strategies decreases the efficacy of arterial hypertension (AH) treatment. Objective – to study the influence of knowledge level upon coping adaptive behavior on their adherent to treatment and disease monitoring in smoking men with AH. Material and methods. 102 smoking patients of working age with AH were examined and cured, they received medication therapy in combination with therapeutic education (TE) by advanced program (1 group) or by typical program (group 2). TE improvement at “Health school for patients with AH” consists in supplementary acquaintance of patients with the peculiarities of personal coping adaptive behavior. Results and discussion. After TE patients of group 1 realized adaptive behavior strategies which were directed to emotional state stabilization twice as often and used the strategies which were oriented to avoidance rarely. 27 % patients in this group stopped smoking or decreased the number of smoked cigarettes (in group 2 – 12 %, p < 0,05), their adherence to life style modification, medical support and medication therapy increased. Conclusion. The acquaintance with the peculiarities of coping adaptive behavior in the frames of AH complex therapy promotes the increase of adherence to medication and non-medication therapy in smoking men with AG.
