- Objective – to estimate the prevalence of senile asthenia syndrome and mobility disorders in old and elderly patients of different age groups. Material and methods. 143 patients (115 women and 32 men) were examined; they were subdivided into three groups: the 1st group – 49 persons aged 65 – 74 years, the 2nd group – 50 persons aged 75 – 84 years, the 3rd group – 48 persons over 85 years. All patients undergone general clinical examination and complex geriatric evaluation was performed in order to reveal specific geriatric syndromes. Senile asthenia syndrome was determined by the criteria of senile asthenia clinical scale with due regard to basic (Barthel index) and instrumental functional activity (Lowton index). Physical activity level was estimated in points. Results and discussion. The prevalence of senile asthenia syndrome in the examined patients was amounting to 60,5% and it was regularly increased with aging: the number of patients with senile asthenia syndrome from the 2nd and the 3rd groups was trustworthy higher in comparison with the 1st group (68,0 and 68,8% respectively and 44,09% in the 1st group). The number of cases with severe senile asthenia in the 3rd group was amounting to 14,6%.Rather sufficient physical activity (walking, additional physical exercises) was demonstrated in 77,0% patients from the 1st group, 48% - in the 2nd group and total absence of mobility (persons did not stand up from their beds) was revealed in 5 patients among 147 ones. The data upon the prevalence of senile asthenia syndrome in ambulatory stage are of great importance not only from the-oretical point of view but in order to organize geriatric aid in practice.
