SELF-ASSESSMENT OF HEARING ACUITY AND SEVERITY OF SENILE ASTHENIA SYNDROME IN GERIATRIC PATIENTS

- Age-related hearing loss is a predictor of the development of senile asthenia syndrome. Timely detection and treatment of hearing disorders may reduce the severity of geriatric syndromes and improve the quality of life for older adults. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between self-reported hearing impairment and the severity of senile asthenia syndrome in geriatric patients. Material and Methods. 147 elderly and senile patients who underwent a self-assessment of their visual and hearing abilities and a comprehensive geriatric assessment. Results and Discussion. Hearing loss of varying degrees was detected in 77 % of the respondents over the age of 65. Conclusion. A correlation was found between the severity of hearing loss based on self-reported data and the severity of the senile asthenia syndrome.
