- Objective – to assess the impact of HIV infection on the course of gestation and its outcomes in HIV-positive women. Material and Methods. The course of pregnancy, its complications, outcomes, and the condition of new- borns in 50 HIV-positive patients were analysed. Results and Discussion. A high frequency of concomitant extragenital pathology, complicated pregnancy, and premature birth was revealed in HIV-positive pregnant women. Caesarean section was performed in 33 (66%) patients that was directly related to the complications of gestation. One child (2%) was found to be HIV-positive 18 months after his birth. Therefore, the early diagnosis of HIV infection in women of reproductive age is essential. Medical care of HIV-positive pregnant patients and their children during the first 18 months of life should be provided in accordance with approved regulatory documents.
