- Biliary sludge is a condition characterized by inhomogeneous bile and a suspension of microparticles in the gallbladder. Biliary sludge is the initial stage of cholelithiasis, which is most successfully respond to treatment. There is an increase in the number of patients with cholelithiasis all over the world. The latter makes it urgent to reveal the disease at the stage of biliary sludge and to prescribe therapy early. It will significantly reduce the cost of subsequent surgical treatment of the disease and possible postoperative complications. The drug therapy of biliary sludge is based on ursodeoxycholic acid and artichoke preparations as well as antispasmodics. Non-drug methods of treatment also play an important role and include diet, mineral water therapy, physiotherapy, and physical therapy. A review of the most important literature sources will allow doctors to consciously approach such a stage of the gallstone disease therapy.
