SOCIAL, HYGIENIC, MEDICAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL ASPECTS OF MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE LEVEL IN PATIENTS WHO UNDERWENT STROKE AT SECOND STAGE OF REHABILITATION

Abstarct
Objective - to study medical knowledge level and status in patients who underwent stroke, to reveal how they were informed on various aspects of rehabilitation before and after explanatory work performed. Materials and methods. 120 patients who passed the second stage of rehabilitation after stroke were interrogated in the hospital of the Ivanovo State Medical Academy in 2014-2016. Author’s own questionnaire was used; the research was carried out on the admission day and on the discharge day; in the period of patient stay in the hospital medical personnel performed elucidative work with them. Results. In admission to the hospital patients evaluated their own level of medical knowledge upon the risk factors in the disease origin, the factors which were conducive to health maintenance to be insufficient; their stay in the hospital improved patient aspiration to gain necessary medical information. Also they knew much more upon the methods of normalization of weight and levels of cholesterol, glucose and lipids. Baseline high knowledge level upon medicamentous therapy and rehabilitation planned results, rehabilitation prognosis, nutrition system changing, harmful habits renouncement increased insufficiently. The positive influence of the performed elucidative work on medical activity of patients regarding their attitude to various positions of the mode of life modification was determined. Baseline unsatisfactory knowledge level upon non-drug methods of rehabilitation improved insufficiently. Conclusions. The most significant gaps in the patient knowledge were as follows: insufficient understanding of functions and content of non-drug rehabilitation methods, especially kineso-, ergotherapy and logopedia also insufficient information on the goals and methods of their mode of life modification. The positive dynamics in medical knowledge level was revealed and this fact testified to the perspectiveness of medical elucidation management by medical personnel.
